Wild Garlicleft (South) bank of Seine near Tounedos-sur-Seine, 28-apr-2005

These photos were taken after a morning English session (with job-seekers at Association Ensemble, Val de Reuil), just after seeing a male Hen Harrier circling through the trees, and just before eating lunch. On the other side of the river an unseen Owl was calling "tlhu tlhu, tlhu tlhu"; Cuckoos and Nightingales could be heard all around, and a solitary Kingfisher was also heard.

general view of the Seine and the towpath looking upstream (East) and showing the plants in undergrowth

The plants were in undergrowth, deeply rooted in a North-facing slope on a sand/gravel river-bank.
A few smaller clusters were seen nearby, but this species did not seem to be widespread in this vicinity, along the river.
This site seemed to be little-disturbed. The river here is non-tidal and probably never floods because there are locks and weirs a few kilometres downstream at Poses.
