Following the flowering in 2005
(click to see the photos), the withered shoots and empty fruiting bodies
of some of our Broad-Leaved Helleborines are still present, while new shoots
are pushing up through the soil for the new flowering season. As previously
noted, most of these plants in our garden grow in places where our heavy earth
has been broken by deep digging at some time in the past.
Based on these photos you may imagine how easy it is to miss - or to remain
in total ignorance of - the presence of orchids, and to destroy them in spring-time
before they have developed, flowered, and fruited >> see my previous comments
(orchids00.htm) about people and organisations keeping grassy wild areas
'tidy' and 'under control'.
